CONGRATULATIONS B & S on your new Welland History site !
I’ve just had a lot of fun looking through the postcards that brought back many happy chilhood memories of the parks, the canal, the bridges, the schools, the homes and just the early history of Welland. Some beautiful images there.
Thank you for the kind words. We always appreciate feedback on our efforts.
Many of the books can be found in the Welland library and Fonthill library. The librarians are very helpful and will gladly assist you with your questions.
Great website and thank you for all the hours spent in organizing and posting so much great info. I have done family history research and can truly appreciate your effort. Geraldine
Regarding Albert Street.-What’s In A Name-Published by Welland Historical Society Page 9
CROWLAND STREET-This street was renamed ALBERT STREET no doubt as a result of conflicts with other streets named Crowland. It was named after Queen Victoria’s consort however, and not after the bootlegger who lived there, as some would have us believe. There is also a legend that the street was named Albert because Albert Manette wrote his name in the fresh concrete sidewalk. Who’s to know?
Hello Adam. There are two banner pics with night-time views of the same street. You can find them both in the Places gallery, or just enter one of the following in the Search box at the top of the website:

welland-294
..and you can then copy the images right from the website.
Dear S, B, and A,
Your site is really interesting, informative, fun and so professional … well done!!!
It is remarkable the amount of clippings you have on the website. This is quite impressive.
Other cities would be envious to have such a collection available.
Good luck!
Nice job on your website! Good to see Welland’s history preserved on this well thought-out site.
A great legacy to leave for future generations.

Great site! Where can I find the photograph of Main Street in the 1950s with the neon and lift bridge? You use it in one of your banners.
